Dr. Vijay D. Gokhale

Technical Director – Sterling Systems Pvt. Ltd.

It is often said that life is integrated, while the observer is analytic. In the same spirit, while one may analytically trace the multi-dimensional journey of Dr. Vijay D. Gokhale, his impact at Sterling Systems Pvt. Ltd.—both as a Technical Director and as a person—extends far beyond the sum of individual achievements.

By formal education, Dr. Gokhale is a doctor of the human body, holding a BAMS (Ayurveda) degree. His early, in-depth study of one of the most complex systems known—the human body—laid the foundation for a unique systems-thinking approach. Over time, this understanding became a rich source of analogies while mastering other disciplines, ultimately shaping his core philosophy:

“Knowledge is Interrelated.”

This principle runs like an invisible thread through his life and is deeply reflected in the technical rigor, engineering discipline, and learning culture he brings to Sterling Systems.

Early Years: Creativity Meets Science (1986–1991)

During his medical college years, Dr. Gokhale consciously stepped into the world of theatre to overcome personal limitations shaped by his early environment. It was here that the artist within him found expression. As a theatre director, he earned recognition from both critics and audiences, developing creativity, communication, and narrative clarity—qualities that later became instrumental in his technical leadership.

Teaching, Mentorship, and Systems Thinking (1991–2006)

After completing his education, Dr. Gokhale pioneered private medical tuition in Pune, teaching anatomy, physiology, pathology, medicine, surgery, and pharmacology for over 15 years.

Although teaching was not a consciously planned career choice, it refined two defining strengths:

The ability to interrelate complex concepts, and
The ability to blend creativity with scientific rigor

These strengths later became central to his approach to engineering and mentorship.

Turning Point: Technology as a Medium

Alongside teaching, Dr. Gokhale founded a theatre academy, Pratibimb (1991–1996). While artistically successful, financial challenges led him to explore astrology professionally for supplementary income.

A suggestion to automate astrological calculations using computers became a turning point. Despite having no formal computer education—and not even knowing how to operate a computer properly—he made a bold decision: to write the software himself.

With intense focus, discipline, and an engineering mindset, he single-handedly developed a Jyotish software comprising nearly 150,000 lines of C code, written in Win32 SDK. This marked the beginning of his journey as a self-taught systems programmer.

Mastery of Technology and Engineering Depth

What began as necessity soon became passion. Dr. Gokhale immersed himself in multiple programming domains across platforms—Windows, Linux, and macOS—eventually combining his artistic instincts with technology through multimedia programming. He became the first person from the Indian subcontinent to earn the Apple “Final Cut Studio Master” certification, excelling in real-time video, motion graphics, sound design, and media processing.

His expertise expanded further into:

  • Operating system internals (Unix, BSD, Linux, macOS)
  • Device driver development
  • Embedded systems (Intel, ARM)
  • Real-time rendering (OpenGL, DirectX)
  • Parallel computing and GPGPU (CUDA, OpenCL)
